In 2004 BDA was invited to create the backdrop to the highly acclaimed exhibition 'The Writer in the Garden' for The British Library. Showing how gardens inspired authors and how authors in their turn shaped notions of the garden. Objects were selected from the Library's collection of rare and beautiful manuscripts, maps and drawings. It included works from Chaucer in medieval times to the War Poets and Jarman in the 20th century. The exhibition celebrated 200 years of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Two of the iconic trees designed for the show have since found a permanent home in the Library entrance courtyard.

“The designer has created an elegant progress through a number of discrete, enclosed, yet spacious-feeling areas.”
