Shared courtyard gardens are a central feature of this development of eight residential units in east London. The new homes, designed by Trevor Horne Architects are built on an L-shaped site that was previously occupied by dilapidated lock-up garages. Walls offer surfaces for scented climbers and geometric beds separate the space into a series of planted areas.

Planting provides interest through the seasons and the ornamental grass Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Waldenbuch’ creates soft screens, while a pair of Betula pendula ‘Laciniata’ provide some dappled shade.
